The Disney College Program is an internship for college students of every major. I learned about it through a friend on mine who had done it and loved it! I started by going to a presentation by Disney at school, Portland State University, and then had to fill out a short application and a 15 minute telephone interview. It was only a week before I got my purple folder telling me that I was accepted! Now I will be "living, learning and working" in Disneyworld, and that is precisely how it all works. All the Disney College Program members live in three apartment complexes there with all the other participants. Once you arrive, you can choose to sign up for Disney classes that can actually be counted for credits at some colleges (but not PSU :( ). Also, each participant is assigned a role, that is where you will be working when you are there. They include everything from Attractions (which is what I am!), Merchandise, Costuming, Quick Service Food and Beverage, and Custodial. Each session lasts about 5 months and you can apply to extend at the end if you absolutely love it.
So now a little bit about me: My name is Cambria Dewey and I am checking in for the program in 10 short days on August 12! I am a history major, but am hoping to become a wedding planner in the future, maybe even in Disneyworld! My role there will be attractions and I will learn which park and area I will be working in when I get to Florida. Luckily, I have found three amazing girls (on facebook lol) that I am planning on rooming with there. Each apartment complex there has a different sort of reputation and we are hoping to get into the Patterson complex. How the rooming works is that when you arrive at the Vista Way apartments to check in you are assigned to a room. However, if you are standing in line during check-in with other people you ask to room with them, request a certain complex, and cross your fingers hoping it will all work! I will be sooo sad if I don't get to room with my new besties because I have been talking to them for months!! Nevertheless, the entire experience of the program is likely to be the best time of my life and I am so excited to get out there and start an entire new life!
Well that's all for now but I'll be updating soon...
